dance like no one is watching

I find this appropriate for today. During the holiday season downtown Colorado Springs has a 'Downtown Stroll'. A few years ago a bunch of my friends and I headed down. We walked under lit trees, Christmas decked shops, listened to carolers, test tasted many things, danced, laughed, froze and ended the night with the most epic snow ball fight I have ever been a part of. (I believe I wrote about it 2 years ago)
Tonight is the Downtown Stroll. Last year we took to the streets and sang Disney songs and ate biscuits and gravy. It has become a tradition for me and I have loved being able to share it with some of my friends.

What I remember the most from the times we have gone is not just the good food, pretty lights or the weather. I have remembered the laughter and funny memories we have made. One of my favorites is finding this dance floor outside a closed shop space. (depicted in pic below) Because of the snow on the dance floor it was quite slick. We slid and danced in circles around the floor for a long time. A few people smiled and chuckled as they walked by. I wanted to do what the sign behind us stated: "dance like no one is watching." And believe me we did just that!

The holidays are so full of parties and activities and I know I sometimes get too busy for my own good. Last weekend I had a party Friday night, parade Saturday and a tree cutting excursion on Sunday. I barely had time to breathe! This weekend looks a little similar.

Last night I spent 5 hours with my roommate after work making care packages for her extended family. We made, it seems, like thousands of cookies. My favorite part, besides eating all the "ugly" cookies (because you know if it is a little broken you cannot give that to someone!!) was the music. We had at first some oldies rock going then we hit a Disney stage which turned into the Prince of Egypt soundtrack.

Have you ever listened to a song you have not heard in a really long time? One that you always loved? It feels like welcoming an old friend back into your life. There is one song called "Through Heaven's Eyes".(find it here) In the movie they are dancing around a bonfire. So, I demonstrated it to my roommate. We had been baking for hours. My back, yes I am an old lady, felt like it was about to fall off but I danced. I danced like a crazy person around the kitchen as my roommate laughed with me and sang along as she put cookies in boxes. Yes, I can attribute the burst of energy from all the sugar I had just consumed but I do not think that brought the warmth to my spirit.

There are memories to be made in every moment. This holiday season may have ups and downs. We tend to remember the ones who are not with us. In the midst of the parties, shopping, and the craziness of this Christmas season never forget to dance! Make the memories, laugh and love. I know I want to savor this holiday season as it comes and not sit back come January wondering what happened to it.

Will you join me in the dancing?? Find a song that warms your heart and dance a long. Grab a partner, a friend, roommate, or even a pet. Fill this season not with stress but with laughter. I know I can't help but laugh at myself when I dance like that. Enjoy Christmas with family, friends and loved ones!
